Carnival of Personal Finance #49
By Chris on May 22, 2006 in Get Rich Project, Hints & Tips
The Get Rich Project took part in the 49th Carnival of Personal Finance over at Frugal for Life (with Your Money or Your Wife). It’s not as focused on frugality as I feared it might be, which has thrown up a few interesting reads I’d like to share.
- Brian at Financial Reference ponders The Role of Financial Advisors. I found this article interesting because he takes almost completely the opposite view to me. I think more of us should go to financial advisors - it could get more people out of serious trouble. Here in the UK, Advisors are strictly regulated (and free!) so there’s not much reason to not seek their advice. My own FA, Jacquie, is great, having helped me get myself sorted in only a few years.
- J.D. at Get Rich Slowly asks How Many Credit Cards Should You Carry? I have one left, down from three. When it’s fully paid (2-3 months tops), I’ll have none. Not even one for “emergencies”. If I can’t pay for something there and then, I won’t get it. Credit cards have got me into a lot of trouble in the past, so I’m not going to take the chance.
- Pete at My Financial Awareness has written a nice piece entitled Don’t Give Up Your Latte. In it, he talks about bugeting and why we shouldn’t deny ourselves the simple things which give us pleasure in life, just for the sake of saving a few dollars. I wrote a much less indepth piece on the subject for the previous Carnival (see What Price the Little Things?), and it’s something I intend to follow-up on in forthcoming articles.
So that’s my picks. Which of the many articles entered in this week’s carnival did you enjoy the most?
