As the title above suggests, I have sold the Get Rich Project after some (drawn out!) negotiations. Out of respect for the new owner’s wishes, I am not going to post any financial details of the deal.

To be honest, I have no idea what plans your new editor-in-chief may have for the site, although I am assured you are in good hands! I’ll still be looking after the hosting, etc, for the site – so I’ll be able to keep an eye on things anyway!

So thanks for reading the site while it was in my hands. Hopefully the new owners will be writing a lot more, better articles for you than I have been!

Answer: not a lot, actually. There, I said it. Admitted live, for the whole world to read.

This may strike you as a strange admission, given as this blog is partly positioned as a “make money from blogging” blog, but I hardly make any money from blogging, at all. To be honest, my first ever AdSense cheque only just got mailed out a month ago. Text Link Ads bring in about $70 a month. So I’m not exactly living off the fat of the Internet Land.

Now, before you unsubscribe because I’m not the “expert” you thought I was, let me do some explaining. The Get Rich Project is about making money online, personal finance, and working towards financial independence. The personal finance bit has taken a back seat recently because I simply have nothing worthwhile to add at the moment.

So that leaves making money and working towards financial independence. Kinda the same thing, if you look at it one way.

Most of the online work I do is experimental. It’s trying out ideas. Some of these work, some don’t. It’s entrepreneurism., I’m looking to build a real business, not rely on advertising dollars. So I’m not making much just now. I don’t care. I’d rather make something worthwhile than have some short-lived “get rich quick” scheme.

The reader who asked the question above threatened to “out” me as a fraud if I didn’t tell all. Guess what chump, I seem to have outed myself. Oh dear, what ever shall I do? Keep on keepin’ on, that’s what.

You can still unsubscribe, if you like. I’ll be sad to see you go, but I think you’d be making a mistake. Would you rather learn with someone, or be preached at by Yet Another Guru (YAG)?

2 years ago, I suffered a brain hemorrhage. The specialist Neurology department saved my life. Now the Scottish Government is considering closing the department and “centralizing” services to a new center 150 miles away. On my personal blog I have written an Open Letter to the Minister with the final say on the matter. My hope is to raise public awareness and support against the plans for closure. That redesign I mentioned yesterday has hit the intertubes. This new look is completely the opposite of what the site looked like before (it’s brown!). I hope new appearance will help grow the blog by attracting more casual readers to subscribe, eventually becoming regular readers.

I’m sure there’s the odd bit of house keeping still to be done (the full Archive page is yet to go live, thanks to some last minute CSS hiccups), but they’ll get picked up as everyone explores the site (please do explore!).

The Get Rich Project is long overdue a visual refresh. While a minor cosmetic change was rolled out several months ago, the site has had basically the same look since day one. This will all change soon. Once I get the new logo sorted out, the new look will hit your screens. It’s a complete change, getting away from the now tired red/white/grey scheme.

Less Advertising.

With the new theme will come a decrease in the amount of advertising on the site. Most of what is currently on the site is not earning me anything. Only the “solid” performers will kept. This might seem strange, when it seems a lot of sites are increasing their ad-slots, but I think striking a balance amongst the reader, the content, and the revenue is more important to me than just increasing my income.

Content.

I’ll be the first to admit that fresh content is posted too erratically. My main problem has always been finding time and inspiration to write “feature” articles. The new design will allow for these features to be given centre-stage, but will also let me post shorter, less involved, and more frequent content.

When the update launches, I’m going to try a phase where I post more links to relevent content elsewhere, along with short “questions for the reader” style posts, on a more regular schedule. This should give you, the reader, a better blog to read, and it should make me feel less guilty about not writing anything for long periods at a time.
